Of course that man is country, pop, and GEICO commercial star Kenny Rogers. While it’s hard to say whether this week’s auction of the nearly 1,000-acre estate he built near Athens signals the proverbial end of dealing for the owner (not him), it’s interesting nonetheless.
Originally purchased in 1983, Rogers built the massive estate to include a 12,000-square-foot mansion, five guesthouses, two clubhouses, an equestrian arena with 44 stalls, two swimming pools, and an 18-hole golf course where Rogers and pals used to play charity tournaments.
He sold it in 2003 to Las Vegas real estate investor Wes Adams, who died in 2011. The property has been for sale by the Adams family for five years now. It was listed in 2011 for $20 million and has decreased in price several times over the years.
In a nod to the very real possibility that no other individual will buy the place for personal use, the website,www.beaverdamsale.com, puts forth a range of other hypothetical uses for prospective buyers:

Bidding starts Saturday at $3.5 million.
